Give Your Home A Little Hygge
With "Shelter in Place" the new normal it feels more like winter than spring these days. Thats why I decided to add some color to my day, and gave my home a little Hygge (hyoo-guh). Seriously all puns aside this Danish approach to getting through the winter and fighting off the doldrums is helping me keep my sanity during the Pandemic. I am building little blocks of joy for myself to keep my spirit resilient, and I encourage you to do the same. As a mom of three, who is now juggling homeschool in addition to my work life, I don't have a lot of time for projects during the week. If you are like me then you need a quick pick me-up. What I love about this easy no-sew project is that it took less than five minutes and it used things I already had in my home. Here is the step-by-step:
SUPPLIES:
1.) A pillow
2.) Fabric that makes you happy! It should be roughly 2.5 times longer than your pillow and 1.5 times wider than your pillow. No fabric lying around? Try using a blanket scarf.
3.) Two medium sized safety pins
STEP-BY-STEP
Lay your fabric flat one the ground wrong side up (hint: make sure it is wrinkle free before you start). Put your pillow in the middle of the fabric.
Next fold the short sides of the fabric over the pillow like this:
Then neatly fold one of the long sides over the pillow.
Then do the same with the other long side tucking the edge over as you do so so that it looks like this:
This will be the back of the pillow and you should have a folded seam as I have shown in the picture. Now at the top of this folded seam use a safety pin too pin through the two folded long sides and the folded short side. Make sure that the clasp is hidden between the folds of the fabric.
If you have done it correctly only the metal bar of the pin should show on the backside of the pillow.
Then repeat this step using the other safety pin at the bottom of the folded seam. Now it's time to enjoy your happy!
